A staff of scientists, conservationists and vets will quickly got down to obtain a world first in conservation by amassing semen from sharks within the wild.
From 7 to 14 December, round 15 specialists will try to gather semen from Indo-Pacific leopard shark (Stegostoma tigrinum) males gathering off North Stradbroke Island close to Brisbane, Australia. They hope to make use of the semen for synthetic inseminations of feminine leopard sharks in aquariums throughout Australia and in Singapore.
